Katavi National Parks
Katavi national park its about 4,500km² in size and is situated in Mpanda District; Rukwa Region in Western Tanzania.The undergrowth in this park comprises dry forests shrublands, plains, swamplands, seasonal lakes and riverine, grasses, herbs and flowers, bushes and trees.
Animals in this park are such as: zebra, giraffe, Defassa waterbuck, buffalo, lion, Spotted hyena, leopard, Wild dog, elephant, Hippos, southern reedbuck, hartebeest, bushbuck, duikers, antelopes, cheetah, crocodiles, wild cat, serval cat and the caracal.
Bird species found here are: pennant-winged nightjars, Open-billed, spoonbills, crested cranes as well as pink-backed pelicans, African golden orioles, paradise flycatchers and saddle billed storks
What to do;
Game drives & Bird viewing
By air: Glide to Katavi to Sitalike or Ikuu runways or at Mlele or you can sail to Tabora or Kigoma by Precision Air from Dar es Saalam from there you can drive to the park
By road: Drive from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya, it’s a long day drive, and then continue to Sumbawanga and Sitalike/Katavi NP.
OR Travel from Arusha/Tabora: thru Babati, Singida, Nzega, and Tabora. From Tabora, you can drive to Inyonga or to Mpanda from where you will link to the Park
